The future of drones.

The future of drones.

About the author:

Hi! I am CJ or better known as Carla-Jane Langenhoven. I am a first year software engineering student at Eduvos. My love and passion for IT grew from my interest in video games, how they are made and also having Computer Application Technology as a subject in school.

Purpose of this blog:

We have all seen this unique device flying around somewhere at some point in our life. In this blog I will be covering a topic that has sparked my interest for the past few weeks now. What are drones and what are their advantages and disadvantages.

Given the scenario of what these little guys are capable of, I have explored and done some research on them and would love to share the knowledge that I have gained in doing so.

What exactly are drones?

According to TechTarget they refer to the drones as an "unmanned aerial vehicles" (UAVs), or in other words known as an "unmanned aircraft". Drones were mostly known for their role in the military where they were used as aircrafts to do target practice on. Luckily being blown up wasn't their only role. Drones were build with an integrated camera and were then also used for gathering confidential information about their opponents or being surveillance.

In todays modern era drones have a slightly different purpose. Due to improved camera technology drones are now mainly used for videography, photography, traffic and weather monitoring and even delivery services.

Advantages and Disadvantages of drones?

Advantages:

There are many advantages when it comes to drones, some of them are for example being able to give data on a larger scale when it comes to farming. Farmers can use drones to collect different soil samples over a large scale.

Larger drones containing tanks inside can be used for spraying of different chemicals needed for the crops. This saves the farmer a lot of time and makes his working environment more flexible.

Disadvantages:

Drones have a lot of advantages but then on the other hand they also have many disadvantages. The main disadvantage of drones are when it comes to privacy. Due to their build in camera people are able to capture video footage without the permission of others. There are rules and regulations to follow when it comes to flying a drone.

Another big issue is the fact that drones are very pricy and difficult to afford and not easy to use if you don't have the proper equipment.
